Today I talked to my friend Rachel Mullins from Heart ME Fashion and she didn’t want to reveal her plans, but I’m sure she’s starting a new big thing soon. Let me tell you a thing or two about her and her last project.

Rachel is a successful model and a fashion designer. Her brand of handbags– Heart ME – is inspired with vintage travel posters. It was an instant winner! Now her handbags are being sold in 4 different countries. She is an influential blogger and trendsetter.

I’m always looking for new inspiration on the web. I like watching stylish people and using their ideas for my outfits.

I love this combination of feminine silk dress and heavy boots. It’s like mixing hot n’ cold. The effect is fabulous.

This one also caught my eye. A white, girly dress and high heels. But that’s not enough! Let’s put on a motorcycle jacket! You would think it’s crazy but just look at the result. I love how creative she is about mixing it all up. It makes my head explode with new ideas.

1. Length

You should decide whether you want it short or long. Knee long sweaters are not only far tall women but if it is falling below the thighs it shouldn’t be too loose.

2. Pattern

There are many different patterns but for me the most interesting are those of Irish sweaters. The trellis pattern, cable and plaited cable stitches make a very classy effect.

3. Color

Natural white is definitely the trend of this season. You can combine it with many other pieces to play with styles and create a layering look.

How to Create an Awesome Wardrobe on a Tight Clothing Budget

#1. Out with the old in with the new. The first step in creating an awesome wardrobe on not so awesome of a budget is to get rid of all of your old clothing that you never want to wear again. Make an effort to throw out old clothes you haven’t worn in years or that do not reflect where you want to go in life.

#2. Make a list. Now that your mind and closet are free of clutter you can start to make a list of what it is you want and need in your new budget. Write down what colors look best on you, what you most enjoy wearing, and what style is appropriate for your day to day life. Do not go out and buy clothes simply because you want them. Make sure the clothing you purchase matches your job and lifestyle.

#3. Check out discount stores. Newsflash: cheap fashion is no longer something to be ashamed of. You do not have to shop at Macy’s to look good. Budget stores like TJ Maxx, Ross’s, and Marshal’s offer clothing at a tenth of what brand name stores do. Don’t be afraid that your clothes will look cheap because really the only person who knows where your clothing came from is you. These shops will save you a ton of money in the long run and you will still look fabulous!

#4. Think Clearance. You can save money on your summer clothing wardrobe by looking for clothing sales. If you can find just one or two cute tops or dresses on sale you will save a ton of money in the long run.

#5. Shop outlet. If your discount stores and clearance sales fail to yield the results you were hoping for you can always head out to your local outlet mall. Even though most of what is sold is marked up, there are still ways to save money. Instead of going there to purchase your entire wardrobe, why not shop for a few specific items? Make a list of what you need and then go to the store. This will help you stay focused and save money.

#6. Use the Internet. Once you have exhausted all of your brick and mortar money saving options it’s time to get tech. Shop on Amazon or eBay to find exactly what you need. There are stores that cater to all shapes and sizes so do not be intimidated by this. In fact, some of them have impressive returns and shipping policies that guarantee you will get what you want.

#7.Be Savvy. Make a list and a budget and stick to it. You can easily do this with end of season sales that you can pick apart to pair with items from the new season. It is all about knowing what to get and when to get it.

#8. Go easy on the accessories. Do not spend a good portion of your budget on accessories. Accessories are simply there to tie your outfit together. They are not your outfit itself. Focus on a few quality pieces that can be used over and over again.

What is Mz Mahogany Chic?

Nakia: MzMahoganyChic.com, an online magazine, is a refreshing take on fashion, beauty, and natural hair. The site contains a vast array of articles with a focal point of the fashion and beauty industry through the eyes of celebrities and everyday people. We love to chat with celebrities with a unique gossip free approach. Who has time to gossip when there are other CHIC things to talk about! We are based in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area, with readers and fans from all over the world.

Tell me about the woman behind the brand

Nakia: Well, I was born in New York City and now reside in the D.C. metro area but not before experiencing life as a Jersey girl and then a ‘Baltimorean’. When I was little, I tap-danced at the Avery Fisher Hall, part of the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts complex. I attended the Barbizon School of Modeling & Acting and later became represented by the John Robert Powers New York agency for acting. Later in life, I decided to get my makeup artist certification. I’m now on a quest to enhance my photography skills and recently I dabbled in fashion design. With all of the many hats I wear, I’m really just a down to earth girl that loves all things CHIC!

What inspired you to create Mz Mahogany Chic?

Nakia: My best ideas usually start with a sheet of college ruled paper. It’s something about those two blue lines surrounding a blank space that spark my creative vision. My love of fashion and beauty consumed my life so much that I had to write about it.

What is your greatest accomplishment?

Nakia: Most recently, I was nominated and awarded the 2013 Emerging Media Member for Fashion Awards MD. The ongoing mission of Fashion Awards MD is to highlight, celebrate and recognize the talents of those who have made contributions to the fashion industry in the state of Maryland and beyond.

A fashion award is amazing. How did it feel to win?

Nakia: There were over 11,000 nominations in the categories. When I was announced as a final nominee, sharing the ballot with only 4 others in the Emerging Media Member category, it was truly an honor. At the award show, I was super nervous waiting to hear if I won. My heart just stopped when I heard my name. I walked up to the stage, accepted the teardrop shaped award presented by Brandi Proctor of FOX 45 TV, and claimed my title as 2013 Emerging Media Member! I am so proud of the Mz Mahogany Chic team for making our magazine CHIC. I am so thankful for having an awesome mom who encourages me to reach beyond my potential. I hope my experiences help me to be a role model for my little sister and build a stronger bond with my older brother.

What is your favorite fashion trend at the moment?

Nakia: The monochrome trend is definitely my fav. And it has been for a while. When Gwen Stefani came out with her L.A.M.B handbag collection and released the black & white checkered Mandeville Satchel from the SS 2008 Collection, I fell in love. I still wear it till this day.

Perfumes have become regularly used products but have many secrets that people don’t usually know about. These fragrances are not only being used for men & women, they are also being used for animals or even surrounding living spaces. There are various designer fragrances that have been released in the market and almost all of them sell in par with the rest. What the secret in perfumes? What creates the mysterious fragrances in the perfumes?

Perfumes are basically a combination of fragrant oils or aromatic compounds, specific fixatives and solvents, usually ethanol. These designer fragrances, men’s fragrances or women’s fragrances or even the room fresheners, help spread a pleasant scent in the environment. The word ‘Perfume’ is derived from the Latin word ‘Per Fumum’, which means ‘Through Smoke’. Historical texts and digs show that perfumes have been in existences in early human civilisations. Perfumery, the art of making these fragrances, started somewhere in the ancient Mesopotamia.

There are different types of perfumes are available. The classification of types can be based on the aroma or also on the concentration of the fragrant oils in the perfume. The proportional quantity of the aroma compound and ethanol defines the concentration of the perfume, which in turn defines the strength and the life of the perfumes. With the increase in percentage of the fragrant oil used the intensity and life of the fragrance increases.

The fragrance from women’s perfumes is usually much milder than men’s perfumes. Colognes are usually the milder version of perfumes. The classical colognes (both women’s & men’s fragrances) are basic citrus blends. They usually don’t have specific aroma oil used in the composition. The colognes available in market today are various combinations of the basic blend, but can be slightly stronger than the classical blends.

Perfumes are usually applied at the pulse points like behind the ears, nape of the neck, insides of the elbow, wrist etc. Through the day the pulse point would warm the solution and release the aroma continually. Cologne fragrances are released much faster than perfumes.

The fragrances of perfumes are pleasant, but they do have some negative effects on the wearers. Perfumes have known to cause asthmatic reaction, headache and nausea, especially upon use of strong perfume. Use of certain compound in the perfumes has also shown to cause skin allergies. These reactions can’t be generalised as it is highly dependent on the wearer.

Perfumes, specially the designer perfumes are comparatively expensive and it is important to preserve them properly to ensure they wouldn’t degrade. The fragrance substances used in the perfume are usually sensitive to heat, light, air etc and breakdown easily if not stored well. The best method to preserve an opened bottle of perfume for several years is to store it in a place that is less exposed to heat and light. But it is important to keep in mind that other factors like the air in the gaps of the container cap, and other environmental factors can affect the scent of the perfume on a long run.
